Gustatory: both cooling and warming, subtly sweet

I love this drink and place. Located near the water and bike path in Bristol, the Beehive Cafe is perhaps the homiest coffee shop/restaurant I’ve ever been to. They’ve got tons of baked goods, seasonal beverages, and dinner served Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. The curried chickpeas are really good both in texture and taste and almost everything else here has honey as an ingredient.

This time around I got the caffeine-free Winter Elixir made of ginger and mint tea with lemon juice and honey. Last time I got this was back in September, so maybe it’s more of a nearly-year-round elixir. The four ingredients complement each other perfectly and the result is cooling from the mint, warming from the spicy ginger, a little sour from the lemon juice, and slightly sweet from the honey. I can see this restorative drink going well with any interesting book – like Alexandra Horowitz’s Inside of a Dog: What Dogs See, Smell, and Know.

What have you been reading and what teas have you been brewing lately?
