Gustatory: really fruity, tart with slight sweet notes

This is The Tea Haus’ Fruit Explosion (purchasable online here). It’s a pretty fitting title for this herbal tea made of apples, cherries, oranges, blueberries, and cranberries. The tea is tart, but the apples and cherries gives it a bit of sweetness too. Overall I find this caffeine-free drink well balanced and particularly refreshing if left unsweetened. It does nevertheless go nicely with some honey, especially if prepared iced. I tried that once…the final result was delicious but took a while to make. (I brewed the tea with water at 212⁰F/100⁰C first, then waited for it to cool down a bit before placing it in the fridge for about an hour.)

It also infuses really nicely: a lovely pink that turns a deep red within about 5 minutes. Though The Tea Haus recommends a brewing time of 5-7 minutes, I keep this tea steeping until I’ve finished the pot. Just keep in mind that as it’s a tisane, it doesn’t hold up well against a second brewing. A really nice beverage on a sunny day with any poem or prose piece (I love “In Defense of Flowers”) from Nikki Giovanni’s Chasing Utopia: A Hybrid – a deceivingly simple collection of texts both inspired by and reflecting on quotidian life.
